The store features genres ranging from rap to rock to jazz. John Selak, the owner of Music Boxx Records, is always looking for vinyl and CD recordings to purchase and resell. Selak is also able to find the obscure album a jazz enthusiast is looking for, and order it. About 15% of his sales are jazz records and CDs. 

 

Recently, the Music Boxx purchased a large quantity of jazz vinyl records, including key recordings from the 20’s, 50’s, 60’s, and 80’s This collection includes big band, dixieland swing, hard bop, modal jazz, and free jazz. Featured artists include Benny Goodman, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Lou Donaldson, and Kenny Burrell. 

 

Selak says that he likes Thelonious Monk the best, followed by Herbie Hancock. He also loves Miles Davis, because Davis was a trendsetter and “one of the best.” You can expect to find the best analog and digital jazz downtown at the Music Boxx!
